This is not your ordinary  pair of  auto cap  pliers.  The curved end of the jaw follows the curved outside surface of the face cap to minimize the likelihood of damaging or disfiguring the outside surface of the cap. When the lock is ready to reassemble, the old cap can be reused using the recessed inside jaws.  Not having a replacement face cap can be the difference between being able to fit a key for a customer's lock and having to send them to a competitor.

These pliers are designed to stake spring covers, such as those used on GM side bar locks, BMW, HONDA, TOYOTA, SUZUKI etc.
